It’s Not A Joke!

Despite it being Thursday and a gloomy day at Mango Meadows, I’m hitting the system to share pearls from Pop-Glossop’s infamous lectures.

Everyone has a sense of humour, some laugh at jokes and others at opinion.

Sense of humour is a person’s ability to perceive humour or appreciate a joke. So, what is a joke

A joke is something said to provoke laughter.

The humorous or ridiculous element in something.

Not to be taken seriously

Merriam-Webster.

As I watch the so-called comedy serial it is quite pathetic, jokes are spun out in an attempt to fb witty duel, bang-bang it is dead as shoots off the tangent. The trading of insults whatever.

Interestingly the kind of joke a person crack, does reflect his psychological make up and unconscious desires. These jokes are not about just making others laugh, they are also to help people satisfy some of their important psychological needs.

Quite often the need avenge prompts a joke.

In our class group we have a friend who forwards only dirty jokes, he neither forward or appreciates normal ones. Well, the issue is simple, he was the youngest in his house, shortest in the classroom and was called ‘shortie” along the way he had doubts about his masculinity and he had this core belief that he was not good enough.

Then there are jokes that devalues others. These are done basically to things like blond jokes actually about devaluing a blond, it would mean the person cracking has a self-esteem issue.

There are jokes that we crack about other nations and countries, or the infamous sardar jokes, is about striving for superiority.

Humour is about spotting something incongruous, jokes are verbalizing them and laughter is about responding to the incongruity vocally.

Quite often we crack jokes violation. It could be morals, social codes, linguistic norms or personal dignity.

Next time you hear a joke maybe you will beg the personality of the person who cracked it. Like I said when I began, everyone laughs… some to jokes and others to opinion.
