Ying and Yang,

I vaguely remember hearing Ying –Yang, to me it was something to be classified with ding-dong or jing-bang and what not. When I learnt Feng Shui, I figured Ying-Yang are complimentary to each other.

The female I know is the nurturer in us, but to the day the role of Ying has never really been clear to me. I do not mean in the biological sense but in the sense of cosmology or for want of better word I shall say philosophy that to me has been about complimenting each other. Individually together supporting and strengthening.

In his book the Da Vinci Code Dan Brown talks of the Pentacle where the ancients envisioned their world in two halves – the masculine and feminine their gods and goddesses worked to keep a balance of power. Ying and Yang, the balance and cyclic manifestation, brought harmony in the world why imbalance brought chaos.

The Hindu mythology talks of this as Purusha Prakriti.  Kamakshi, the goddess of desires, she is seen here with all the symbols of Kama the god of love. Including the parrot, sugarcane and flowered arrow. She sits on Shiva forcing him to participate in the worldly life.

They form the completeness of life,

The mutable prakriti or nature and the unchanging soul. The purusha

She faces the north and he the south

She faces the permanence of the ever blazing tapa of the soul while he faces the ever changing flow of the Rasa of nature.

Of late I have begun to notice that the presentation of Ying and Yang is more opposites… like if we never experience the chill of a dark winter night, it is very unlikely that we will ever cherish the warmth of a bright summer day. Nothing stimulates our appetite for the simple joys of life more the starvation caused by sadness or desperation. In order to complete our amazing journey successfully, it is vital that we turn each and every dark tear into pearl of wisdom and find blessing in every curse.

Maybe; maybe not, somewhere when we over analyze we lose the experience of it all. The dance between the dark and light will always be, the stars and the moon will be visible only in the dark. The darkness in turn cannot be appreciated without the moon and the stars.

If I were to accept the Ying and Yang as the dark and light without really appreciating which one is which, my journey to development of the ability of transmutation would be quite a journey to be on, first, I would awaken to the darkness in me, then I learn to accept it, then I learn to marry it with the light and then finally I learn how to harness the dark energy through my bright energy in order to transmutate any darkness into brightness into light and lightness, this probably would be soul alchemy and this could either be thrust on an individual  and at another time it could be sought after by an individual. In any case it is not an easy journey.
