“Clothes make the man. Naked people have little influence of society” claims Mark twain who am I to refute that?
The murder mysteries always have the first murder because; the victim was wearing the intended victim’s clothes.
Clothes! Clothes! Clothes!
Karl Lagerfeld says fashion is a language that creates itself to interpret reality. Not really. One time being fashionable meant expense, and cheap, well meant crass and loud. Never use the word cheap today; anyone can look chick in inexpensive clothes. There is good clothing design in every level. You can be the chicest thing in the world in a jeans and T-shirt it is up to you. The elegance is as physical, as moral quality that has nothing common with clothing. You can see country women who are more elegant than the so called elegant women
I love reinventing new combinations of what I have. Improvising, sometimes being more creative simply because I want to. It’s as it is evolution of the physical appearance kind of the next step.
I never figured why women want to dress like men when they’re fortunate enough to be women? Why lose felinity, which is one of our greatest charms? We get more accomplished by being charming than we can be flaunting around in pants and trying to become men. I’m fond of men, they are wonderful creatures, but I do not want to look like one, the greatest error that European women did was to give up skirts, and now we are heading that way by giving up our sari’s. It’s not mediaeval. To be really mediaeval is like Oscar Wilde says, one should have no body. To be really modern? One should have no soul.
Like Vera Nazarian, I sometimes wonder what is it about wearing a tuxedo, or that little black dress, or draping the crisp cotton that makes us feel more confident, beautiful, splendid even invincible?
We put on formal wear and suddenly we become extraordinary.
On days when we feel low and invisible imagine walking in a formal wear, for me a venkatagiri cotton sari, and just experience the day.
Isn’t it amazing the way we are worried about appearances, most of us are ashamed of shabby clothes and shoddy furniture let us be more ashamed of shabby ideas and shoddy philosophies. The sad thing is sometimes, the wrapper is better than the mean wrapped inside.
