I have had a holiday, and I’d like to take it up professionally.
Once I wanted to become an atheist, but I gave up they had no holidays.
Imagine the drudgery of it all!
My favourite holiday, actually it is holidays, the deepavali or the diwali as the cowbelt population calls it.
It begins with the day of the Hindu month of Ashwin, with the Dhana triyodashi, which is the day of Kubera puja that is the treasurer of the Gods is honoured. He is also the yaksha raja or the keeper of the forest wealth.
Then comes Narakachaturdashi, the day before the new moon, when the slough of the nature is collected honoured and recycled.
The Lakshmi Puja, or the honouring of the Goddess of abundance. All eight forms of abundance is honoured.
The day after the new moon, the Balipadya the most important for us along the Parashuram-Mahabalikshetra, the return of Bali the King of the netherworld back to terrain after ensuring that his subjects have had a good harvest.
The season comes with crackers, cuisine and new clothes. Families visiting each other gifts exchanged.
to me like many others, holidays are not voyages of discovery, but a ritual of reassurance.
