Old Friends

Image“Friendship isn’t about whom you have known the longest …It’s about who came, and never left your side.” – Unknown

As Francis Bacon noted age appears to be best in four things old wood best to burn, old wine to drink, old friends to trust, and old authors to read. It is one of the blessings of old friends you can afford to be stupid with them.

Old friends are people who stand by you thick or thin, sick or sin.

The friend with whom you can sit on a porch never saying a word and walk away feeling that was the best conversation you’ve had.

Actually the longest friend that I have known should have been I,me, myself. But as Albert Schweitzer r put it in everyone’s life at sometime, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter  with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.

Actually a friend is one of the nicest things we can have and one of the best things we can be. We don’t really need a psychiatric therapist as much as a friend to be silly with notes Robert Brault, how right that means nothing like a school friend, particularly the highschool one who has been silly with you before.

Maybe that’s why H.Jackson Brown Jr. Says that the most valuable antiques are dear old friends. After all friendship isn’t a big thing it is a number of small things, these are built over years, the time that your friend has come in your way when you are falling down and let you go by when you were going up.

The Dalai Lama the practical spiritual leader that he is says,” Old friends pass away, new friends appear. It is just like the days. An old day passes, a new day arrives. The important thing is to make it meaningful: a meaningful friend – or a meaningful day.”

“We have to learn to be our own best friends because we fall too easily into the trap of being our own worst enemies.”

Roderick Thorp

  1. I love the last part.. being our own friends. It’s through being your own friend that you understand yourself and know yourself better. By being a better friend with yourself, you can to be better friends with others.
